COVID rules and considerations

We know you’ve been looking for the details on how we’re dealing with COVID for this year’s camp. We apologize for the delay in sharing our Covid safety policy. In light of that we are extending our early cancellation date to August 11. In the face of all the COVID uncertainty, the committee has worked hard to make good choices that balance the safety of the community with enjoyment at camp. It hasn’t been easy and we understand that not everyone will be 100% delighted with our all choices.

Here’s our policy in a nutshell: required test before leaving home, mandatory test upon arriving at camp, be fully vaccinated, sign an events waiver, and let us know if you test positive after camp. Keep reading for details. Learn about additional efforts we’re making to keep you safe.

Northwest Passage Dance Camp is sponsored by the Portland Country Dance Community (PCDC) and as such our formal policy on pages 3 and 4 of the PCDC’s COVID-19 Indoor Events Policy for Attendees. More COVID information is available on the PCDC website.

TESTING: In the interest of a safe camp, everyone will be required to take a rapid Covid-19 test upon arrival at camp, before signing in and finding your accommodations. In the event of a positive test, you and anyone else in your car will not be allowed into camp.

We’re asking each camper to bring at least two rapid tests with you. Free tests can be ordered from:

We REALLY do not want to have to turn anyone away, so we require that you self-test BEFORE leaving home (preferably no more than 24 hours before arriving at camp), especially if you are flying or traveling a long distance. Also, please consider taking extra precautions the week before camp, such as wearing a mask in indoor public spaces. If you’re carpooling, we suggest you mask in the car, and ensure that everyone tested negative before getting into the car.

If you have symptoms or test positive, do not come to camp. We want to see you at camp, but remember, a full refund will be made for dancers who need to cancel because of Covid symptoms, a positive Covid test, or exposure to someone with Covid within the last 5 days.

VACCINATIONS AND WAIVERS: Unless on the “PCDC verified attendee” list, participants must have their vaccination status verified and sign a PCDC Events waiver (save time and print/sign a waiver to bring with you).

All campers and staff must be “fully vaccinated” (two doses of Pfizer or Moderna, or a single dose of Johnson and Johnson, and at least one booster, if eligible) and show their proof of vaccination (a physical vaccination card, photo, digital image of the card, or printout/digital image of a State of Oregon SMART Health Card).

Be sure to bring identification as well (a driver’s license or government issued ID card with a picture).

MASKING: Wearing a “well-fitted mask” is required of campers in indoor spaces, except when actively eating, drinking, bathing or sleeping. Please bring a supply of masks with you for the weekend. We will have a limited number of extras available.

A "well-fitted mask" is a mask that fully covers the nose and mouth at all times, is made of multi-ply material (cloth and/or surgical masks, typically together), or is an official N95, KN95, or K94 mask (all without valves). Masks with holes, face-shields, gaiters, single-layer masks and bandanas are not considered well-fitted masks. You can check out this article on K95 masks.

Staff musicians and teachers are not required to wear a mask while they are performing and physically distanced from other participants. (If the caller decides to call or teach from the floor, they must be masked.). Wind players in classes may be unmasked if they are socially distanced.

LETTING US KNOW: If you test positive for COVID after attending camp, please email us at and tell us when you tested positive, where you were lodging (if staying on site), and any symptoms you might want to mention. We will let other campers know about possible exposure, but we will never reveal your identity.

The Kiwanis camp has been working with us to increase everyone’s safety.
